Coffee

What is coffee?

Coffee is a drink obtained by infusing the fruit and the seeds of the coffee tree (Coffea) which contains caffeine, a stimulating substance.

Coffee cultivation takes place in many tropical countries and is mainly for exportation, as coffee is one of the main agricultural products commercialized in international markets and it often greatly contributes to the exportations of the producing countries.

The infusion is elaborated from ground and toasted seed. High roast is often consumed (toasted in the presence of sugar) in Spain, Portugal and Costa Rica. Coffee is mainly drunk for breakfast of after a meal.

On the other hand, coffee offers a wide range of possibilities, even though the most popular way is to drink it, apart from black, is with milk; cream, condensed milk, chocolate or liquor can be added. It is normally served hot but it can also be drunk cold or with ice.

To obtain an idea about how popular coffee is, it is enough to say that it is the second most traded product in the world, only exceeded by petroleum.
